# Shards announcement

1. Hey everyone it's our pleasure to announce that Graphite shards are now live and stakable.\

   Some things to note - this app is quite unique, the vesting period of the shard depends on how many Taiyo assets are in the wallet that's staking the shards.<br>

   For example if you have no Taiyo assets your vesting period is 14 months, if you have 1 Gen1 your vesting instantly decreases down to 10 months. Any shards acquired via secondary market will vest at the rate determined by how many Taiyo assets you hold.<br>

   When you claim tokens from a "Shard" the Graphite owed to the shard goes down, this is verifiable via metadata that shows the $GP remaining in the shard. As this info is not 100% up-to-date, you can go to the "verify" tab of the shard website (and enter mint address of NFT) to get accurate quantity of $GP left in the shard.\~\

   Shards currently don't serve any purpose other than Graphite vesting - do not buy these expecting any further utility. \
   \
   We understand shards were meant to launch after IDO but due to various health issues and restructuring within the team this complicated app has been stuck in "limbo". To compensate for the time it took to get shards live we'd lowered the vesting periods by 2 months. <https://solport.gitbook.io/graphite-whitepaper/token/graphite-shards-closed-now> you can remove 2 months from the timeframes mentioned here and that's the new "compensated" vesting time.\

   We apologize for the delay and hope that the 2 months lowered vesting will serve as a stepping stone to get us back to good graces with people who were upset about it.

   We are excited to get more apps out live and back on track like the good old days, focusing more on delivery of goods and making hiqh-quality tech.\
